OUR PHILOSOPHY AND CURRICULUM
Our philosophy at the Mattawa Child Care Centre is to provide a secure, healthy and enriching learning environment for your child. Our program is bilingual and includes structured and unstructured play activities. We have a wide variety of toys chosen with children and their developmental stages in mind. Our toys will be changed as your child grows and their abilities and interest change, so that the environment we create will remain stimulating and appealing throughout.
Our Centre implements the high/scope cognitively oriented curriculum to create settings that will promote active learning within a safe, comfortable and secure environment.
Each classroom is divided into play areas. The areas include the house area, block area, art area, fine-motor manipulative area (quiet area), computer area, and sensory area (sand/water play). The environment is designed to encourage both social interaction and solitary play, and to provide comfortable spaces for both individual and group activities.
Consistency is very important for young children. Regular routines, constant care, consistency in educators, clearly defined limits and expectations will help your child to develop an internal sense of discipline.
Our Early Childhood Educators provide developmentally appropriate activities that enhance your child’s physical, emotional, social and intellectual development. Each classroom setting has a daily routine that is predictable yet flexible.
Our educators will facilitate your child’s learning by observing your child individually and then creating opportunities within their interest to further enhance their experiences. Because children learn best when they have a strong relationship with another adult, our educators will work closely with a small group of children to provide the attention and security they need to develop their emerging communication skills. Although parts of the child’s day is structured and teacher directed, some of their day is spent engaged in “free play” where they can choose what they want to play with.
